Microsoft confirms gamescom press conference, promises “a bunch of announcements”
Microsoft will be holding a press conference at gamescom next Tuesday, August 17, VG247 can reveal.
MS sent out invites to a gamescom “play day” this morning, but didn’t make it clear if the company would be holding an actual press conference at the German show as it did last year with Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux.
But it is. And it’s bringing “a bunch of announcements” for the event, according to an MS rep speaking to us on the phone just now.
Microsoft said it wasn’t sure what format the conference will take, but it’s a presser that’ll take place on the same day as EA’s and Sony’s.
Nintendo won’t be holding a conference at the show.
While nothing has been confirmed yet in terms of announcements, it’s very likely we’ll see a European release date for Kinect at the event.
Obviously, we’ll be there.
The shindig kicks off next Monday, with gamescom itself running August 18-22, the first day being industry-only.

@1 It’ll be anytime between 12:30pm – 3:30pm CET.
We don’t quite know yet, but we’ll hopefully know something more specific before the end of the week.

Doesn’t exactly sound like the most thought out conference, to be honest.
I bet they’re also hoping to try and guess the right EU release of GT5 so as to have Kinect take some impact off it, given GT’s importance in EU.

Natal (fuck kinect) will be the next 360 HD-DVD drive, it will bomb, as i can’t see why anyone in their right mind would buy such a useless peripheral.
It’s too expensive and has no killer software. There is no incentive what-so-ever to buy this..

I wouldn’t be massively shocked if we did see Kingdom.
This is Crytek’s backyard after all, and I’d like to think it would have something a bit extra then just Crysis 2 multiplayer (nothing wrong with that, FYI).

@12, wasn’t being smug, was an actual question, never handled an iPhone so i don’t kno anything about it, was simply asking wheter or not it has an internet browser, now regaqrding your former remark, why not post it in the forums instead in random articles? if you don’t see the app for it, it’s likely not there

Kingdoms seems logical, and I’d expect something else from Rare to appease their fans. Perhaps a downloadable game. That, and a gameplay demo of Fable 3.

@17 you don’t have to hate microsoft to be revolted by the 360s giveaway. Those game journalist acted like loose ladies at a rock concert. Thats only cool if your in the band. The rest of us are the losers waiting out side for our girlfriends to return from there back stage extravaganza. Nothings the same afterwards.

@20 thats the thing though right. If you had got one you’d be happy but, isn’t it a journalist job to remain objective? Joe blow can have one of these, its like oprah free car giveaway. This was e3 however, joe blow wasn’t even allowed in.
Game Reviews are already bought and paid. Now not only do game journalist not have to buy the games they tell us to buy, they don’t have to buy the console either.
It’s sick.
