Song of Ice and Fire game series called “A Game of Thrones: Genesis”

Cyanide Studios announced last year it had acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin’s beloved fantasy novels into a multiplatform game.

Today, Focus Home Interactive announced it’s to publish the game, which has been names A Game of Thrones: Genesis.

Along with the first two pieces of artwork for the game, a description was also provided and it sounds a bit like a strategy title:

“A Game of Thrones: Genesis” plunges you into the heart of the battles and intrigues between the Families that shaped the Kingdom of Westeros.

However, victory does not necessarily result from brute force. The innovative game mechanics provide players with numerous paths to success: will you opt for a military, economic or diplomatic approach? Trickery, treachery and deceit are widespread and you will constantly have to watch your back if you want to avoid a bitter defeat!

Peacefully or forcefully annex surrounding territories, besiege enemy castles, send spies to infiltrate behind enemy lines, assassinate trouble-making officers or capture them to ask for a ransom… When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground!”

Still no date or confirmed platforms, but at least this is something.

We’ll send another mail and see if we can get more information. It’s been over a year, after all.

Likely, this is also being done to tie in with the forthcoming TV series based upon the narrative property of the same name:

Yeah, it was in the press release last year that HBO had the rights.

I’m liking the sound of this, even though the announcement is a bit vague.

Me too, honestly. I was hoping it wouldn’t be a strategy title but it’s sounding that way.

In my mind, I was hoping for an RPG-actioner, where I could slap Sansa around, and maybe even play as Tyrion who RULES!

I am looking forward to the HBO series of the books more to be honest. I would even pay for the channel once it comes out next year.

Awesome, can’t wait for new info. What I really can’t wait for is the series.

So, I take it the game’s going to be called “A Game of Thrones: Megadrive” here in Europe?
