Lara Croft: Guardian of Light a month-long XBLA exclusive

laracroft

Crystal Dynamics has told Eurogamer that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive for at least a month.

Brand director Karl Stewart said the exclusivity period was down to the inclusion of the game in Microsoft’s Arcade of Summer line-up.

PS3 and PC versions will follow a month after in September.

“The agreement with Microsoft is, in order to participate in their hugely successful Summer of Arcade promotion, there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks,” said Stewart.

He added: “As with all arcade titles, irrespective of platform, you have to go through your submissions before they agree and approve a date.

“Unlike a disc based title where we can pick our window, you have to go by what the first parties approve and give you a date, to make sure you’re not coming out on the same day as five other titles. They like to manage the release window accordingly.”

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light releases on August 18 for Xbox Live Arcade.

There’s a full interview through here.

It might turn out alright, I’m going to give the demo a whirl at least.

I’m sure I can hold out an extra four weeks. Looks a bit like a twin stick shooter in Lara clothes, could be worth a punt.

Just read an interview at Eurogamer with Crystal Dynamics, anyway a good interview.

I don’t see the point of timed exclusives, it just makes the companies involved appear money grabbing and petty.

Probably makes sense for them to go along with Microsoft’s rules on this one – the Summer of Arcade games always do fantastically well due to the ‘buy them all, get points back’ thing. They might have to hold off on a PSN release for a few weeks but they’ll probably increase their 360 sales significantly without harming their PSN sales either.

Let’s face it
Who is going to buy a 360 just because it’s getting an online distributed title first?
It’s not a system seller, so why would M$ throw their dollars at it for a month’s exclusivity?

Read what I wrote above – they almost certainly didn’t pay anything for it. Eidos will have wanted that slot in the promotion for their own benefit.

Summer of Arcade runs for four weeks – hence the ‘month’ of exclusivity.

@11 maybe if they support this CD will give them the next full TR as exclusive or some dlc for that game exclusive as well.

To keep the goats off of their bridge, of course.

I got headbutted by a goat on a German mountain once. I fucking hate goats. Smoothy-makers are the best place for them.

Don’t care, I own all 3 consoles, so I just get it where it comes out first, no big deal…I guess if you only own a Wii, I will have to call the Wa Wa Wa Wambulance?
