Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light gets first video, voice actor

The first gameplay footage of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has emerged, showing the new top-down style in action.
It certainly looks a lot different from the Lara we’re used too, but that’s to say it’s not all-good.
In other news it’s been confirmed on the game’s official forums that British actress Keeley Hawes is the one playing the voice of the games main lady.
Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light is due for release this summer on XBLA, PSN and PC.

I wonder if Lara actually survived in that tomb in the fourth game.

I was sold… until Lara spoke at the end.
I HATE HER CHARACTER.
She’s pompous, mean, frustrating and her accent is irritating.
I’ll buy this and play it in mute.

The problem with Lara Croft is she has no character thats why the franchise has stagnated over the years, its only been her tits that have kept it going

hmm no, she’s a fantastic, subtle character. aside from the Legend, I always liked her. I just hope they never make her american.

‘Fantastic, subtle’
I’d imagine that you go around wearing garish red wigs yelling obscenities in the street whilst insisting you’re being ‘nonchalant’… Because you don’t seem to have a grasp on the meaning of subtlety.
For heaven’s sake Lara killed a mythical sea creature at the start of Underworld for no reason other than it was in her way!

@onlineatron you entirely missed my point, I was referring to the way her character was developed over the course of the game.
and what you call ‘pompous’ and ‘mean’ I see as bold and self confident.

Terrible.
What is this a PSOne game? (sarcasm) but it’s sure using the style of one.
I was thinking of buying this for co-op, but after watching the video I won’t be wasting my money.

judging by the sales (aside from the initial Underworld figures), nobody gives a shit about LoK and it’s appalling gameplay instead .

DaMan, you truly have terrible tastes in games (so far) to be frank. First, SO:TteoT was good (….! Threw up a little in my mouth) and now LoK was bad? I don’t know what to say other than that you should never advise anyone on playing anything decent.
Also, yes, Lara has always been a poor character who got by on looks. Once good TR-type games where developed, she got lost in the stampede.

I didn’t know that sir errr, Galactic_Barret (unfortunately, I basically never heard of you until today, except that I remember some weed conversation going on here a few months back).. was the leading internet game critic and an ultimate Star Ocean expert as well. probably it will surprise you, but lots of people “throw up a little in their mouth” when trying your favourite titles.
either way, I said that LoK games had appaling *gameplay*, which makes them.. bad to play, you know? after the PS1 Soul Reaver, many people, myself included found them dull, repetitive and not offering anything new to the genre. pretty much the only people that keep on caring are the hardcore series’ story fans, particularly after the latest entry (Defiance). perhaps you shouldn’t be such a dick and respect others’ tastes in gaming as well?
also, Lara was very well developed in the CD games, surely more interesting than some generic everyday american guys. she also always had an actual personality, at least compared to other 90s games back then. lost? hardly an appropriate word for a classic videogames icon.

I’m no dick, but you need to be told. Its like, when you see someone walking down the street, looking fresh, with TP on their shoes or a stain on their shirt. Got to let them know.
Explain to me Lara’s character. I mean, we know she’s definitely a cold person, but tell me more. She’s snarky, unfunny and rude. With (used to be) huge boobs. Speaking of boobs, its funny how the series fell (again) after they lessened her cup size in Anniversary.

Also, I believe ‘lost’ is an absolute perfect word to describe where she, and plenty of other 90′s icons, stand. No clear vision of where you’re going, keeping up with the Joneses to stay relevant. Crash, Lara, Spyro. Even series like RE, SH, RE, AitD. Struggling to find an identity when everything was formed on a paper-thin foundation to begin with.
They started soulless, faceless puppets that these developers are trying to transform into Pinochio. Thats the main theme of the gen: Personification.

unfortunately, you are a dick rider. the reason is because you chose to say I shouldn’t recommend games to someone because you have different tastes, that is at least funny. you believe I won’t say LoK is crap the next time?
I have a better idea, sir “Galactic_Barret”. I don’t really need to do anything like that, since you even fail to grasp how a game for teens like TteoT has a good plot.. no, not backpedalling, I just don’t want to entertain you, since you’re either that or just a moron ( “Got to let them know”). much like I don’t need to ‘explain’ it to prepubescent boys who can’t see past her boobs. these ‘debates’ aren’t fun. why don’t you look her character analysis on the internet yourself, these days there’re plenty. or better yet, why don’t you mail Toby Gard, I’m sure he’ll send you a detailed description?
oh, and like I said, people usually compare 90s games to 90s. old Lara to that gen ones, CD Lara to today’s. all characters ‘ve started as soulless puppets back then.

oh, and “You gave no advice, though. You only said LoK was terrible and I commented on your poor tastes in games. Don’t be mad. I’m sure you’ll survive my critique.”
actually, I commented on LoK games being poor, when you, instead of posting similar comment chose to pretty much attack my ‘tastes in gaming’ and made a post recommending me to not giving advice to others. after which I suggest you to simply piss off and perhaps respect others’ views a bit more. not mad, merely I’m not into decent conversations with people like that.

You don’t remember me speaking of my wife and daughter a few months back? Anyway…
1. TteoT does not have a good plot. Its nonsense (Hey! I don’t really exist! I’m a TV show! Identity crisis!) that transcends the age rating.
2. The burden of proof is upon you, sir. I gave my reasoning on why she is a poor character. If you forfeit, fine.
3. The insults are unnecessary. If you can’t debate, don’t. You (as in all people, for clarity) look like a fool when you hurl insults without substance.

It was an observation. You believe TteoT was good and the opposite for LoK, which is completely backwards. Dumbfoundingly so. I’m fine with that, at least I was until you dropped the LC character bomb. That was too much.
If you don’t want to have a conversation with people who are honest with you, I’m sorry. The internet doesn’t leave a lot of room for tact, though.

no, I don’t remember. lots of people here, and unless it’s someone like one of those ‘top posters’ or someone I actually had a conversation based on mutual interests, I forget them. I do remember the weed one involving you though, but I wasn’t a huge part of that one myself.
“The burden of proof is upon you, sir. I gave my reasoning on why she is a poor character. If you forfeit, fine.”
heh, hardly. why don’t you do what I ‘ve suggested? if someone chose to post what was said above there, I ‘m not going to have a reasonable debate with them, besides I ‘m not sure ‘enlightening’ you will be fun. I actually believe you should perhaps do some research about later Lara (as in CD games) at first, judging by your “observations”. here, I can even show you where to start:
http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/who-the-real-lara-croft
Google is your friend.
oh, and it’s – you believe LoK was good versus SO3, “Dumbfoundingly so”. while I don’t, a bunch of rewievers don’t, and declining sales of LoK don’t. that doesn’t mean it’s a fact, merely that these people have different tastes than you. perhaps you should refrain from forcing your “honest” personal views on others like I said.
I insulted noone here, I merely summed up what you were being like atm. now if you excuse me, I’m going to go to sleep. and stay tuned for the next LoK article on vg247, I’ll be sure to comment on that.

Goodnight, brah. Maybe next time, a link or something to back up what you say. Even BDH does as much. The weed conversation was when I talked of my wife and daughter.
Also, if moron dickrider, and ‘prepubescent boy’ aren’t insults to adult induvidual, I need a new definition.

Thanks for the article, but I want to say two things: That article conveys the same cookie-cutter personality of all generic heroes (Infallable, fearless, strong, smart, etc) with the caveat that, although she is a buxom beauty, her looks on factor into the players perception of her, not her enemies; A wrinkle in well worn cloth. Second, if some traits of her can only be portrayed writing, and not her games, then that is a problem with her characterization in her main medium.

That’s kind of interesting. The Diablo-style camera viewpoint was certainly a bit unexpected, even though they’d pretty much said it was going to be like that in the previews and stuff. Perhaps I’ll keep an eye on this after all.

That looks pretty good, I wasn’t expecting much from this but the co-operative gameplay looks like it could be the source of some clever puzzles. I’d still like another Legend/Anniversary styled game, as long as it’s not dull and rushed like Underworld.
I’m really pleased to hear Keeley Hawes is doing the voice again, she’s perfect in the role.

A cross between Diablo and original Prince of Persia, then? Sounds interesting on paper but looks pretty underwhelming in motion, IMHO.
Also Soul Reaver 1 and 2 were fucking *amazing* games, what’s not to like about them? Sequel now, please!

“next time”? haha, I sure was told. funny yeah, I actually believe it’s you who should try harder, especially with the SO3 and that twist since that argument is pretty much the same asinine, close minded bollocks I hear since 2004. the twist was in itself, cliched but the way they did it was better than most of other games, and Matrix (original movie) which makes it very much decent for a jrpg aimed at 17 y/o. certainly on par with the better examples in the genre. see, you aren’t exactly fun. try something else.
oh, was that the weed one, well unfortunately I don’t remember the part about ” the wife and daughter”. only the one where you were so pissed about someone on the interwebs not enjoying the concept of getting high same as you. perhaps you once again acted in a similar manner as you do atm, thus preventing me to notice the part where you referenced the relatives? the dickrider is pretty much the way you started this one, no insulting just describing the way you act. oh, and I said you’re either trying to entertain yourself or a moron, since you said “I need to be told”. the prebuscent one wasn’t even about you, so why do you even care?
either way, I believe you should first read some of the stuff like the one I linked to, seems like you have yet a lot of things to discover about this character, probably after that you should start correcting others. “same cookie cutter personality” etc ? hardly, you can say that about pretty much every similar game (tps) protagonist these days but it were them that copied her, not the other way around. certainly that makes them ‘lost’, not the original archetype. Lara doesn’t need to be ‘refreshing’, it’s the new ones that should do that to become noticeable. she’s a classic, not a cliche, see. and addressing your second point: the issue is with your idiosyncrasy, as well as being as subtle as a battering ram hence you fail to see “characterization in her main medium”.
