A new version of the Aliens vs Predator demo is now available on the PlayStation Network.

Publisher Sega is advising people to delete the old demo and download the fresh code.

PS3 users had trouble connecting to matches in the tester at the start of the month.

The firm is, however, “confident” it has now fixed the problems found in the originally released version.

“We are confident that the matchmaking issue has been fixed with this new demo and we will be monitoring community activity closely over the coming days to ensure that it has been fully resolved,” said Sega Europe marketing boss, Gary Knight.

“We would like to thank the community for all of their valuable feedback and continued patience.”

Rebellion head Jason Kingsley also chimed in and clarified why Deathmatch was the only mode in the demo.

“We chose Deathmatch as the mode for the demo as it’s very familiar to all FPS gamers and minimizes restrictions on players while they are getting to grips with the controls of each of the three playable species.

“We have plenty of new modes in the game and players only have to wait a matter of days before they can play them when the game launches.”

AvP’s out tomorrow in the US and Friday in the UK for PS3, 360 and PC. Full PR below.

SEGA and Rebellion can confirm that a new updated version of the Aliens vs Predator demo is available now on PlayStation Network. The first iteration of the Aliens vs Predator multiplayer demo has now been taken down from PlayStation Network and replaced with this new version.

The first iteration of the demo suffered matchmaking problems resulting in some players experiencing difficulties getting into matches. SEGA and Rebellion have worked closely with Sony to investigate and resolve the issue with this new demo. The new demo also features additional functionality to allow PlayStation 3 users to create their own matches and browse for any available ones to join.

“We are confident that the matchmaking issue has been fixed with this new demo and we will be monitoring community activity closely over the coming days to ensure that it has been fully resolved. We would like to thank the community for all of their valuable feedback and continued patience,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe.

Rebellion would also like to clarify the reasoning behind the choice of a Deathmatch multiplayer demo for Aliens vs Predator.

“We chose Deathmatch as the mode for the demo as it’s very familiar to all FPS gamers and minimizes restrictions on players while they are getting to grips with the controls of each of the three playable species” said Jason Kingsley, CEO and co-founder of Rebellion. “We have plenty of new modes in the game and players only have to wait a matter of days before they can play them when the game launches.”

Aliens vs Predator is set for release on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC Games For Windows on February 16th in America and February 19th in Europe.

    This is getting ridiculous.
I was gonna buy this game (mainly, because I love the Alien franchise).
After all these problems with JUST A DEMO…well…I’m not.

It’s not “all these problems”, though. It was one big problem, outside a testing environment the matchmaking didn’t work properly. As PS3 demos can’t be patched — and server side changes weren’t enough — they had to put out a revised version.

I can guarantee that Rebellion are more annoyed about it than you are.

Being a big fan of the Aliens films (not so much Predator) I had expectations regarding the atmosphere and graphics for this game. All I can say is what I pile of shit. Secondly, playing as Marines in the demo is a complete waste of time. Sound is shit aswell. Basically, the whole games’ a clusterfuck.

I did this on Saturday without first deleting the original demo. It still worked though.

I don’t care how many times they fuck up the MP demo, it’s the SP campaign I’m really excited about.

You can go over to Metacritics to see a few more scores. Its got an overall score of 65 on PS3 (one more review then the 360 version). Not really fairing very well.
