Bayonetta PS3 to get installation update

Sega’s announced it’ll be releasing a title update for Bayonetta on PS3.
The update will allow you the option to install the game onto your HDD.
It comes after one of the biggest sticking points for the Sega-ported version was long loading times.
It’ll release in Japan tomorrow. Nothing yet on when it is coming west.
Thanks, Kotaku.

About time. Fingers crossed they also improve the colour levels a touch, I know it’s too much to hope for any frame rate improvements etc.

Wonder if they’ll ever fix the lower-rez textures. Fallout 3 on 360 had weaker textures then the PS3 version but that was actually fixed in a patch.

Wow – thats actually good news.
Its a nice game but the stupidly slow load times for pausing and even for displaying art assets for items you just picked up annoyed me so much that I haven’t played the game past the first couple of levels.
The slow loading was a deal breaker for me.
To confirm I wasn’t imagining things, I played the demo again and the loading times were much better.
I assume that this fix will make the full game play as smoothly as the demo on the PS3. If that is so, then consider me happy. I may even play it again sometime soon.

If they knew the disc read times were a problem, I wonder why they didn’t include a forced install in the first place?

Why would anyone want to include a forced install?
Make it optionable and we’re all happy.

Well… because the load times were so slow that they basically broke the game? Weren’t people complaining that you got a loading pause when you picked up an item? That’s not irritating, that’s broken.

@Blerk
So little care was taken with he PS3 port, I think it stretched their collective talents to ensure the PS3 version loaded at all, let alone enhanced it at all.

……….
Doesn’t mean the installation should be mandatory.
I’m playing it on the PS3, and yes, it is mildly irritating that there’s a loading screen for each NEW item you pick up and the pause menus, but it’s not a deal breaker for me at all.
If the option to install the game was there I’d use it, but, in my opinion, all games should come with the option to install to the HDD, but it shouldn’t be mandatory.

Fair point. It could’ve at least cached those things to HDD as it used them though, surely? The PS3 is guaranteed to have a hard drive after all. It all seems unnecessarily slapdash.

Wouldnt surprise me if the option to install wasnt there from the start because it wasnt in the 360 verison which was pretty much ported over in the most direct way possible..

I don’t think SEGA went all this trouble with this installation patch just for the “Loading times”
there must be also something else into it

They probably did, from what i’ve heard its the loading times that really make the game near unplayable. And anyway, it was already confirmed that Sega called in Sony to fix up the loading times, looks like this is their solution.

After the amount of effort they put into the PS3 version it’s obviously the red-headed step-child of the Bayonetta family. Hard to see why they’d put more than the bare minimum of effort into the patch.

that also was said when the “patch rumor” was spread…most people didn’t believed it was actually accurate(including myself)…but now here it is.
No one can tell what this patch fixes for sure…we have to wait until tomorrow and see(JPN version)

Maybe I will buy this for my PS3 after all, but I’m waiting until I know they’ve got it into reasonable shape vs the slapdash port it currently is (as Blerk so eloquently put it).
I’m sure that not long after the patch hits the ‘net will tell me all I need to know about how effective it is.
