ELSPA’s announced that Xbox 360 overtook Wii as the biggest software format by revenue in the UK last year.

The MS machine raked in £459 million to win on the revenue front in 2009, although Wii still won based on the amount of software sold: the console sold 18 million units in 2009.

PlayStation 3 software rose well last year, with more than 11.9 million game units sold, up 1.5 million from the 10.4 million units sold in 2008.

Overall, 74.6 million software units were bought in Britain last year, which counts for one game per person in the UK.

Earlier, ELSPA figures tallied that £3.3 billion was spent on videogames last year.

Good news for Microsoft and all but that’s a MENTAL increase for Sony. Were they really that low in ’08? Really?
