Rumor: Bethesda to purchase Valve?

handshake

Bethesda? Valve? Is there something going on between you two? Because we read this editorial by Eurogamer, and well, just look:

“However, it’s also worth watching closely what happens to Steam in the coming months. Unconfirmed industry scuttlebutt suggests that Zenimax – the parent company of Bethesda, which made headlines back in June when it acquired legendary PC studio id Software – is still on the acquisition trail, and has been making eyes at Half-Life creators Valve across the bar,” said the article.

If true, it’s certainly out of left field, but then, so was Zenimax’s annexation of id Software. Guess we’ll see what’s up in the coming months.

For now, though, speculate away!

This would be awful.. Isn’t Valve rolling in dough from STEAM? Why in gods name would they want to sell?

I can’t really see them selling. I thought that part of the reason that Steam came into existance was because Valve wanted to avoid being so reliant on a master.

Atleast if its true Valve will be able to break away from EA and have Bethesda publish their hard copies.

Whilst the UK continues to lag behind the 3rd world in terms of the internet, DD will not take off like it should.

Most ISPs cap download limits to 8GB a month and if you purchase a couple of games a month, or closer to xmas – 3 or 4, then you will sail past that cap and lose your service or get a fine.

Before the industry gets moist with excitement over DD, they need to look at the infrastructure first and although I use Steam alot, I al loathed to pay their stupid prices for a game sometimes and end up ordering from amazon

@ Grimrita: I don’t know about every other ISP out there, but BT and o2 both offer unlimited usage packages, and o2 offers it as standard. Virgin, Be, Sky, the Post Office and Orange also offer the option, too.

I think the issue is more around speed rather than capacity, but I can see the latter becoming a much larger issue in the future should DD take off in a big way.

I’d be surprised to see this happen. But not that surprised.

I wouldn’t be that surprised either Zenimax studios Bethesda & iD are both old school PC dev houses as is Valve. If Valve were inclined to sell then Zenimax would be the closest fit.
