Steam has Half-Life games on sale for 55.8% off

In celebration of Gordon Freeman being named “All Time Greatest Game Hero” by 55.8 percent of voters on Gamespot, Steam has but the Half-Life series on sale this weekend.
For 55.8 percent off.
Mosey on over and get yourself some head crab. That didn’t sound right.

Quite ridicolous, in my opinion. I love the Half-Life-games – HL2 is probably my all-time nr. 1 favourite game – but Gordon Freeman? The most anonymous game hero of all time, perhaps.

Freeman may never speak or appear in the game but his character is exemplified in how the other characters relate to him. They all blatantly think he’s awesome, the Vort’s worship him as a God (in spite of his mass slaughter of them in the 1st game) and Alyx Vance has to fight to keep her pants on whenever he’s around.
Gordon Freeman is a legend.

WHen I think of Hero. Freeman doesn’t come to mind. He is just person who is in a crappy position. Like John McClane in the Die hard series. Only Bruce WIllis is a far better “hero” than Gorman was.

Anders I agree with you. HL2 was absolutely stunning, but Freeman himself, well the point was he didn’t even have a discernible character at all, the player filled his shoes. Pretty damning verdict on the state of the quality of characterisation in gaming, or how importantly it is regarded, when the gamers themselves vote that the best character the medium has ever created doesn’t actually have one.

Interesting choice, if unexpected. Guess more people like a blank slate that makes them feel like the hero than you’d think.

That and we do not know who the others were. For all we know it was Baldur (from Too human) and Barbie.
