EyePet – 15-minute play movie and photos of final version

eyepet3

A final version of PlayStation Eye game EyePet turned up this morning in an amazing expanding pop-up box thing containing the camera, final code and the little paw pad used to control objects on the screen.

I filmed myself playing it with my daughter, with support from my twin sons, for about 15 minutes – get the movie and photos of the pack after the break.

You’ll see the game show you how to set up your room, fix the lighting, how to position the camera, and so on. You’ll also here me say, “Come on Mr Egg.” This isn’t usual. The video shows the first stages of your little monkey’s life, with you hatching him, warming him up, giving him a name and helping him bounce around on a trampoline.

To be honest, it’s the cutest game in the world. Ever. Hit the link to see why.

I’m kind of hoping for a ‘hardcore’ Poke’mon/Digimon/Monster Rancher RPG type of iteration on this game. It looks interesting, but trampolining and handclapping can only go so far for me. Are there any plans on expanding upon this idea for the more discerning and fickle gamer?

My kids might like it for a short time although two of them are getting a bit old for something like this. What’s the age range for this, 2 to 8? I hope they have other pets and not just this one as it’s sort-of an annoying little creature.

Lighting might be a problem for me as one of my rooms is darker than usual. Also, not ideal to be playing on the floor, having to have the camera facing down to the floor, and then looking up high at the TV due to where it’s mounted.

Depth perception and interruptions to the paying field like the girl’s legs really ruins the experience.

Although cute, it seems like a it is too fake and too simplistic an illusion to pull me into it.

The one bonus is I did want to get a camera so maybe the combined value is worth it.

Oh I can see this being a big hit over Christmas. I just want to see my 4 years old interact with it!

Will they be doing an ‘adult’ version with a naughty nudey lady and a variety of pretend implements for you to play with together? Like feather dusters or bottles of milk?

They probably will Blerk, but won’t release it outside Japan :D
