Older 360 games cannot be patched to work with Natal

Microsoft’s Kudo Tsunoda has said that it’s not possible to release a patch in order to make older 360 games work with Natal.
Speaking during a Natal demo of Space Invaders Extreme and Beautiful Katamari at TGS, Tsunoda told D’toid that a “significant amount of code” would have to be altered in the games, therefore, a “simple update wouldn’t be enough”, forcing a publisher to re-release the game entirely.
Sorry kids. No Bomberman: Act Zero Natal for you.

There’s plenty of games it *would* work fine with. Most obviously driving games. But does anyone honestly think that a developer is going to go back and re-code old games just for people to be able to play them on the Natal? No.
And it’s true, that level of patching simply wouldn’t be possible. The way the 360 patching works, it currently stores the patched data in memory up for the 5 games, so the file size of a patch on the 360 is deliberately limited in size.

Driving games don’t work that well with Natal as the Eurogamer appraisal of the Burnout Paradise, er, patch demonstrates quite well.
Not being able to patch in support for older games is a big blow, when Sony will be wheeling out RE5, LBP and other enhancements.
On the other hand, maybe it will drive innovation.

OE, that wasn’t Burnout Paradise. Well, not as we know it anyway. Kotaku found out it was new code created for the demo by Criterion.
