E3 2009 – Sony press conference liveblog!

It’s so on. Microsoft delivered a blistering E3 keynote in LA yesterday, leaving many shellshocked at the depth and quantity of its announcements and Sony with everything to do in its conference today.
PSP Go’s a cert, as are God of War III, Heavy Rain and the like, but what else? We could tell you what we know, but we’d be in mortal danger.
Don’t blink, for God’s sake. It’s make or break time. Nuke or die. Boom or bust.
The Sony E3 press conference starts at 11.00am PST/7.00pm BST/8.00pm CET. Get our liveblog after the break.
If you’re after streaming video, check IGN, Gametrailers, Gamespot or G4.

SONY was going to lose in the eyes of many whatever they did.
I love the PSP so all the games and the new one got me real happy. Im really liked all they showed.
( fanboy comment coming ) i guess since they have so much stuff they couldnt fit it in 90 mins.. or even 2 hrs like they had.

Ehh… there was plenty of fluff they could have cut. Either way, the full picture will be known over the next couple of days.

True, i think that the vids of all the games could have been left out, and maybe the motion could have been shorter.

The motion control presentation could have been so much better if they had shown it running in an actual game.
Natal is doing that dodgeball thing and Burnout, so they seemed a little bit like they just don’t have anything good enough to show yet.

I thought that was alright. I’ll do a “who won” feature this week.

I think I’ll avoid that.

Was there some nice, reasoned discussion going on in here? Haven’t had a chance to look.

Well I am happy. I guess I can’t put it any other way.
Agent trailer please! But it IS Rockstar, isn’t it – so minimal marketing I am guessing.

I think MS had a very solid showing of good standard titles – what they lacked was anything different or new – aside from Natal. If you are a fan of those they did show then obviously you’d think it was a better conference. I think Sony showed more interesting stuff for me – Last Guardian, FFIV, Mod RaceNation and the motion controller stuff were good.
Oh and GT5 nabbing WRC and Nascar licenses – that’s pretty big news right there.
Both had good conferences, and my personal preference is with Sony, but a lot will prefer the MS stuff.

Shame everything Sony showed was next year. Uncharted wsn’t dated either.

If your a Sony fan, then what they announced might have done it for you. I didn’t see a particular reason why I needed to buy a PS3, except for Last Guardian, which is not enough of a reason alone.
With MS, pretty much feel the same. There wasnt a real reason to make a PS3 owner buy a 360.
Nintendo is of course milking Mario for all it’s worth, and nothing new there either.
The motion controllers from Sony and MS look interesting. Sony is doing an extension of the Wii, and MS is doing something different not using a wand or dongle, though that would be easy to implement.
The question on how laggy the tech is for Napal, how much light it needs, how close you have to be to the camera, how good the audio pickip is, are unknown. If it can live up to what Milo and those videos show, then its going to be amazing, but im skeptical..
With MS and Sony, it really depends on the software. The Wii was built from the ground up to support that wand, laggy though it is. Every game uses it.
With a piece of hardware that people have to buy seperate from their console, its unknown how well it will sell.
The new motion controller winner will win due to the software, not the hardware. MS’s seem to be most unique, but its cost, and repsonse are yet to be seen.
MS’s won this E3 imho, but not by a huge amount. Only the promise of the Napal system, sets them ahead, and it remains to be seen if it was just hype or not.

I think the Natal system is very good for non-gamers, but as a gamer I’m more interested in what they can do with the MotionPlus and Sony systems. They are going to be more accurate and have a greater breadth of uses. It’s all going to come down to the software though.

I don’t see how it’s going to be more accurate tbh. Anyway, both release next year. Let’s wait and see.

One releases later one releases earlier.
One is waggle and Eyepet, one is Peter Molynuex.
Compare and contrast.

I would just’ve liked to have been excited about the next 6 months. Apart from Uncharted (still not confirmed as 09), what is there?

Don’t waste your time. I’ve been asking what’s really on the horizon this year and know one could tell me. Before E3 Sony had so many exclusives coming this year, now they have an unconfirmed Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank. Microsoft has Forza 3, Halo ODST, Left 4 Dead 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction. How the hell the roles get reversed so quickly in 2 days?

I think Uncharted is still slated for Autumn 2009 release in the US.

@Mike
They will be more accurate because of the motion sensors built into the controllers and for the Sony one that it has something very specific to track. The hand writing demo showed how accurate it is. The avatar spazing out when the guy tried to show the bottom of his shoe showed how accurate the Natal system is. Neither are perfect, and both have limitations. There are a couple of fairly clear strengths/weaknesses from what has been shown so far though.

Strange how there was now mention of it. Not even a “coming this fall.” Nothing.

But Sony have already done a whole load for this year…
KZ2, Infamous, etc…
(I’m sure there are more that I can’t think of right now)
What, have you guys finished with these and want more already??

Finished Killzone 2, working on Infamous. I think Infamous is pretty bland and boring. Just got Red Faction and getting Prototype next week. Don’t even play Killzone 2 online anymore, not interested in map packs.

It’s pretty sweet but the mission are already a bit repetitive. Blowing stuff up is pretty cool.

To be honest, open world games have a tendency to get repetitive really quicking. The game is fill with repetitive taxi missions and fetch quests and there is no way to remain neutral. You’re either good or bad.

Really hope Uncharted 2 comes out this year. And after how well Yakuza 3 did, I was hoping it would be released in Europe and North America but no announcement or even hint at the title.
*edit* you read my mind
Love the first Uncharted.

I’m more interested in the multiplayer tbh.
I play multiplayer a lot, so this looks like something fresh to give me a break from COD4 for a week or so.
The demo was a blast, so I’m looking forward to getting the full game.

Not big on multiplayer. Don’t have the time to invest to not be considered a noob. I guess it’s why I don’t play Killzone 2 anymore.
