Update: While Activision confirmed on the phone this morning that the game was to be a 360 exclusive in the UK, a promised press release has failed to materialise and multiple sources are reporting that the deal has yet to be done. There’s an update on MCV.

Update 2: For the sake of clarity, here’s the original announcement in its entirety. This was sent out by UK PR firm Frank PR this morning in an email headed, “INFO MAILER: UK PLATFORM EXCLUSIVE FOR TONY HAWK: RIDE”:

Hi all

Further to Monday’s announcement regarding Tony Hawk: RIDE, Activision UK is pleased to announce that this title will be launched later this year in the UK, as an Xbox 360(r) platform exclusive.

Tony Hawk: RIDE features a wireless skateboard controller designed in conjunction with the game to offer a dynamic gaming experience. Using a combination of accelerometers and motion sensors, the intuitive controller allows players to physically control the action by performing various movements and gestures on the board that directly translate into amazing tricks in the game. Without complex button combinations or analogue sticks, gamers of all skill levels can literally step on the board and play!

Original story:

Activision just announced that Tony Hawk Ride is to be a 360 exclusive in the UK.

The game – plastic skateboard and all – was announced last week for 360, PS3 and Wii.

We’ve just been told the deal is a UK-only affair, so those in the rest of Europe and the US aren’t likely to be affected.

More soon.

    WHAAAAAA……

Is this MS’s retalliation? Becuase Sony clearly stepped in when Atari were shutting down their Europe arm…

Ahhh whatever, I need to sleep. Didn;t want that piece of shit anyway xD

Did Microsoft really pay for exclusivity for this?

    Hahahahahaaha!!!!

As a UK PS3 owner I couldn’t be happier. Funny how there was an embargo for Fallout 3 DLC reveal yesterday but not for this.

Not interested in the game in the least, but all this gimping of multiformat releases is going to do nothing but piss gamers off. It’s like watching a spoilt kid taking his ball home so only him and his mates can play with it.

Grow up FFS, if this escalates we’ll end up seeing Sony and MS spending ridiculous quantities of money to tie up fairly low key titles, just so they can claim to have one upped the other.

Have first party funded titles by all means, but if it’s multi format, keep it so.

The difference is that if PS3 owners in the UK really want it they’ll just import it, i have a PS3, and i’m not interested in this or Ghostbusters.

Hey Patrick, any chance you can find out how much the deal has cost MS?
I doubt Acti-Blizz are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

I tell you though, I aint stopped bloody laughing since I read this……Oh my sides!!!!

Play.com innit. You don’t even have to import as they’re not UK based either.

    Seems a very weird move.

Ha, I wasn’t interested in it in the first place. I don’t want peripherals, if I wanted to waste loads of extra money on additional equipment I’d buy a Wii. Or a 360.

i best send my £15 pounds to sony then to help them pay this off.

Don’t wanna buy that game anyway with its landfill fodder peripheral. These exclusive games are becoming a bit stupid. I guess the sooner we have one console the better. And screw you Spielberg.. what do you know?? You make films (and endorse party games) don’t you? Consoles won’t die, and I will never, ever buy a PC and as much as I love my mac for work, I’ll never game on it.. PS4 FTW! ;-)

Played one though? You’re missing out a little imo, the early THs were fab.

Hmm, got at email from Acti earlier, it says otherwise.

EDIT: Although I must stress, it could still be exclusive. Details are to be finalised.

For now, it’s still on PSWii60.

    @Retroid
Horses for courses n’all ;) but I thought the first two were really addictive, quite hard and had that one-more-go arcade action vibe. Then the series just went all silly and easy.

Well, look at the PS3 girl : the skate peripheral can’t possibly stand the weight. And the Wii girl is too busy being easy anyway.
360 was the only logical option left.

I don’t see this as a system seller (is it?), I can’t understand why anyone would pay to have exclusivity on it.
