Valve’s giving you Left 4 Dead for free this week, allowing you to play the shooter for 24 hours for nothing.

Starting Friday at midday GMT, you’ll be able to download and waste some zombies without parting with cash.

After 24 hours, the game will lock. You get back in with your wallet.

Valve just can’t seem to get enough of that money stuff. I guess the new money waterfall just isn’t impressive enough.

The evil empire brush doesn’t really work with a company who consistently makes some of the best games on the platform. Of course they want to maximise profits, and the steam sales/free weekends have turned out to be amazing ways to do it. Anyone who sniffs at the Orange Box for $9.99 or a free weekend of Left 4 Dead doesn’t deserve such lovely bounties.

More players on a heavily online play reliant game can only be a good thing… even if they suck (someone has to distract the Tank)

The trick is to find a few people you like playing with and invite them all to a group! Then they can invite people who don’t suck, and so on.
