Fallout: New Vegas announced in London [Update]

We’re just heard that Bethesda’s announced a new Fallout game – titled Fallout: New Vegas – at its London showcase.
Apparently it’s the same style of game as Fallout 3.
We’re waiting on more detail.
Update: It’s releasing in 2010. Obsidian’s developing.
Update 2: It’s PC, PS3 and 360. Not a Fallout 3 sequel.

MMm so they really are milking fallout huh …
No wonder they want to rip off the mmo rights from Interplay’s cold fingers .

What what?
Is this actually a new game and not a new batch of DLC?

Any more details other than that Pat?
I’m guessing this isn’t just Fallout 3 set in Vegas rather than DC?

That’s kind of come out of nowhere then. I thought Bethesda were officially working on Elder Scrolls V, not Fallout, and thought they only had one full dev team.

It got out of the event. I’m not actually there, but it was supposed to be embargoed until 3pm tomorrow. Someone jumped the gun.

The Benny: They’ll be working on both at the time.
Fallout 3 was announced before Oblivion, but Oblivion was released much sooner than FO3.

Obsidian? Is the Fallout 2 guy heading it up, then? The plot thickens!
Edit: Chris Avellone.

Lutz: My understanding was that Oblivion was the full project and FO3 just had a small team working on it. Once Oblivion was done pretty much the whole lot moved into Fallout.
If Obsidian are doing this then that makes sense, and we might get an Elder Scrolls and a Fallout next year.

TheBenny: You could well be right, and it does make sense that.
So Blerk, Chris Avellone did FO2 and is now heading Obsidian?

OK, so not a Fallout 3 sequel, so… Fallout 4? Or just a Fallout story set in the Fallout 3 setting? (Obviously a different city mind)

New game in the Fallout universe.

Yes. There’s a big article about him in this month’s Edge, which is the only reason I knew that.

So not Fallout 4 then. Still, cool.
I reckon, as FWb said on EG, that it was a DLC pack that they’re cramming as much out of as possible. No bad thing though, so long as it’s good, naturally.

I surmise Fallout: NV will be to Fallout 3 as KOTOR II was to KOTOR.

Howard and the Bethesda massive will be doing F4, innit.

as long as its as long as f3 and as long as its as awesome as f3, i’m all about it. You know, one of the things I loved more about F3 is that game doesn’t give a shit about co-op and such multiplayer bullshit, and finally delivers a long and exciting 1-p adventure, which is something you dont see every day in this lackluster generation
I welcome these news

Elder Scrolls 5 from Bethesda in 2010
Fallout New Vegas from Obsidian in 2010
Tonnes of DLC for both in 2011
Fallout 4 from Bethesda in 2012.
Anyone with spare cash, I’d be investing in their shares around about now.

Lutz – Not sure. I’ve just been told today was “just the announcement” so I’d expect a proper look at E3.

Well kudos to them .
I just wish they wouldnt want to control everything fallout , including the mmo rights … so that those who arent fans of the new take , could have a chance , a shot at something different , and maybe who knows good .
But on the other end , Interplay does sound like it fell asleep with the game .

“IN LONDON!!!??”
Anyway, old school PC game developer, develops old school PC title, for franchise he is famous for. I have the right to be excited right? Fallout done right?
By the way, what event is this? If it’s Bethesda’s alone, why did they ask a number of the press to join them for just their company?

Have they said anything about their Splash Damage project, I mean, they’re in London and we know they have hired half the gaming industry. Also, FUCKING HELL.
I’m in a state of shock of New Vegas, I’m so excited I make patrick look like a member of the porridge cast.

Huh. That was fast.
If it’s due for a 2010 release, it’s probably been in development for well over a year or two now.
Interesting choice of developer though, employing many of the guys who helped make the original games. Might bring back in some of the old fans who didn’t like the direction of Fallout 3

Wow, that came out of nowhere. What would be fantastic is if they released Fallout: London or something, because, I loved Fallout 3 and all, but I imagine it must be even better with a place you know.
Although, I admit Elder Scrolls V is still top of my Bethesda priority list, in fact, probably top of my ‘all games’ list, maybe joint with Mass Effect 2.

Interplay still have the MMO rights, so it can’t be that. Bethesda wouldn’t spent time making a game they might not be able to launch, and certainly wouldn’t announce it before they got the rights.
