After a source close to Videogamer informed the site that Trophies will be mandatory in all PS3 games once January rolls around, the staff had a quick chat with a spokesperson from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, who confirmed the rumor in as few words as humanly possible.
“Yes, from Jan 09 all games must have Trophies,” the spokesperson said.
Shiny bits of virtual plastic for all your hard work. Money and piles of women can’t be far off.

Are achievements also mandatory in 360 games? I didn’t know that. Seems an odd thing to enforce.

Mandatory, yeah. No point in buying the game if you can’t up a completely arbitrary score whilst playing it is there?

I spoke to a guy the other week who regularly bought complete shite, just so he could rack up some easy points for his gamer score. Don’t get me wrong, I think the whole gamer score/trophy system is a great bonus, but I think some people have begun to lose sight of why they play games, in favour of enlarging their e-penis!
