Sony: No plans to fix PSP-3000′s screen, hardware to blame

If you’re one of the 140,000 who already snatched up a brand new PSP-3000, you’ve probably noticed a troupe of ugly scanlines on the handheld’s screen, skewering clean through your favorite games. Unfortunately, according to SCEI and SCEA, those scanlines are here to stay.
“PSP-3000 has a new LCD device with vastly improved picture quality, achieving a more natural and vivid picture than older models. By improving LCD response time to reduce ghosting, the horizontal-line phenomenon becomes more visible,” read SCEI’s statement.
“Since this is caused by hardware characteristics, there is no plan to fix it with system software update.”
Heartbreaking. Your eyes have our condolences.
Thanks, PSP Fanboy.

I still can’t really believe that it looks quite as bad as that picture.

At least anyone with a Wii as their second platform won’t complain too loudly, they’re used to that sort of stuff…

I’ve seen a bunch of comparison images around the Internet, mostly they look like this:

In that article I don’t see the scanlines at all, so I really can’t help but wonder if a group of people are playing funny buggers (it wouldn’t be the first time). To be honest, I’m almost tempted to pick one up just to find out, even though I already have a PSP.
I really feel bad for Sony, these days. They’re doing their best but there seems to be an amount criticism surrounding them, even if most of it is poorly leveraged and researched.

@Esha:
No offense but, the official SCEI statement indicates that there *is* a problem, otherwise they wouldn’t bother at all.
