X3F’s running a piece that appears to show that NXE Avatars will have their own specific URL containing three sizes of images of your Live persona.
There’s a sample here, but you’ll find it garbled in Firefox, if that’s what you’re using.

reask: The mime-type is wrong, it’s being sent as an ASCII text file. That’s a pretty amateur mistake for them to make.
Of course, Firefox is well-behaved so it pays attention to such things. Whereas IE ignores pretty much every Internet standard that ever was or is (as it does) and takes its best guess (this is why there are so many security holes in the damn thing), and that’s why it loads it despite the mime-type.
