PSP Plus will allow PS3 controllers to connect to PSP, says Sony

According to this Joystiq story Sony announced PSP Plus at TGS today, a feature that allows a DualShock to wirelessly connect to PSP.

The system will only be supported by the upcoming Resistance Retribution for now – allowing players to use dual analog control with the third-person action game – but more titles will “potentially” use it in the future, according to that piece.

Right, so you hook up the PSP to the telly and use the Dual Shock. Kind of like a PS2, but portable. I get it.

If the game’s being developed for the PSP though, hopefully the game’s difficulty would change sufficiently for use with a PS3 pad or else it’s gonna be a walk in the park!

What a terrible idea. Rather than encouraging people to come up with games which don’t require a second analogue stick, they’re instead providing an “oh, yeah, it really needs to be played with a pad” cop-out.

Wrong, Sony.

What a great idea for people who use the PSP on the move, like on a plane or a train. The sort of places that people play mobile devices.

I agree with Blerk. This is a stupid move on behalf of Sony!

And does this mean that for these [PSP Plus] games the developer has to create two separate control-schemes?

It’s not stupid. Many people were complaining about the nub, and now they don’t have to. As long as the DS isn’t mandatory, I’m fine with it.
