Movie – Burnout Paradise bikes: watch a complete challenge

burnoutparadise16.jpg

Criterion and EA launched the Burnout Paradise Bike Patch this morning, and you’re probably wondering what it looks like and what it’s like to play. Fear not: we’re here for you.

After the drop is a video of us playing from the beginning of the update, which takes you straight to a junk yard and presents two bikes to you immediately.

There’s a full race challenge included in the video, which we won. Obviously.

A few things to note:

  • There was no boost on the bike we were using at all.
  • You can see a crash in the video. There’s no animation when you pile into a wall: the screen just fades out and you’re back on the road.
  • The handling’s very forgiving, as previously known. You have to properly “crash” to balls it up.

Take a look. For the record, this is shot from the 360 version.

I still can’t quite believe they’re giving this away for free!

It’s fucking wicked! Desperately trying not to play it and do some writing.

Pat “Ghostrider” Garrat, or is that Ghost-writer, I dunno.

Not a lot of traffic, PS3 ah, just saw 360 in the text. Also heard you flicking the stick straight to the limit, using the car model for steering physics and animating the bike to fit?

    Their engine must be amazing.

To be able to add bikes (and eventually planes) post release is unheard of. This has got to be the most epic DLC ever.

Just done one of the long bike challenges, get round the whole map in under 8 minutes.

Did it with lots of time to spare…the bikes are…fast!

    /must do some work

Bikes don’t have boost, it’s a trade off for using them as they’re quite nippy already.

  7. patlike said:

Tiger – Yeah, pretty much doing the stick all the way to steer.

Whizzo – Ja, so I’ve just been told by Criterion :)

Oh. I absolutely must rebuy this game. :(

i don’t know why people are kicking up such a fuss about the fact this is free.

they had probably already started making the bikes but weren’t quite polished enough to be put in the final game.

secondly, valve have pioneered the free micro-expansion market ( i say market because they claim their sales shoot up everytime they release a new addition to the game )

a couple of other games have released little tit bits for their console games too.

maybe just not as much a new vehicle.

These updates need to undergo the whole MS certification thing, that doesn’t happen for free. It shows that they budgeted for these updates.

This has a positive impact for the publisher as people are more likely to keep hold of their copy and keeping it’s pre-owned market value high making sales of new copies higher.

  11. ElfShotTheFood said:

Are these updates going to be included in the PC version?

  12. SplatteredHouse said:

yes, the PC version should include all content so far released.

scuz: nope, the bikes are brand new… you’re also forgetting the range of new challenges added to the game. It’s not just a new vehicle added to the basic gameplay; a new game mode has been added to accommodate them.

This is a very significant update.

  14. Harry said:

A more significant update would be crash junctions, but that’s never going to happen. Alas.
