PSU’s running a quote from an unnamed source saying that PS3 Firmware 2.40 – the software update rumoured to hold in-game XMB and user-soundtrack functionality – will release in June.
“The SDK 2.40 will be available to dev. late in June. The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day a lot sooner (my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4),” said the mole.
We’re waiting for comment from SCEE on a release date, but don’t be holding any breath.

Launching alongside MGS4 sounds like a console-wreckingly good idea.

I might buy one just to see if all this is going to work.

SDK available after the firmware? Confusing.

I just did Pat. Like 10 minutes ago. You’re the only one left.

2.4! 2.4! 2.4!
patlike said:
mart: How much did it cost?
Blerk said:
Somewhere was doing ‘em for £250 today, but I can’t remember where.
Blerk said:
Oops – too late. They’ve sold out.

Got it for 325 at Zavvi with GT5 Prologue and Uncharted – the latter can be any game off the shelf though.
patlike said:
Gah. It’s too much.
Psychotext said:
Yeah, these keep showing up for £250 on specials. I have that gunmetal one on pre-order but that’s not going to happen I don’t think.
If it doesn’t I’ll wait until they bundle the DS3. Not buying a bundle only to upgrade the controller immediately.
patlike said:
Same.
And a price close to 200 quid.
McLovin85 said:
A price close to £200! You’re in for a long wait there Pat.

I doubt it’ll be June, more like early July
