nVidia has finalised an agreement to acquire AGEIA, the company behind the PhysX development tools used so far in more than 140 current gen console and PC games. Hot stuff.

“The AGEIA team is world class, and is passionate about the same thing we are – creating the most amazing and captivating game experiences,” said nVidia president Jen-Hsun Huang.

The financial terms of the agreement haven’t been disclosed, but you can reckon on it being “a lot”.

I think it will have gone for a relative song myself. As a product PhysX is a complete failure and PhysX has failed to gain any real traction among game developers while the leading competitor Havoc has been doing very well cross-platform. Bad time for a VC-funded start-up in this area, co-inciding with the downturn of PC gaming and a powerful cross-platform rival in ascendancy.
