USgamer Community Question: What Game Are You Playing for JRPG July?

It's July. It's JRPG season. What games are you playing this month? Tell us in the comments!

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

It's July. It's already well into July that is. I feel like I blinked, returned from a mini-vacation (I went to New York City for the first time and it was very nice, thank you for asking), and now we're a third of the way through the month. I realized that it being July, it's also JRPG July (or rather, #JRPGJuly).

I always try and fail to partake in JRPG July. It's a month where you tackle a notoriously lengthy JRPG, and try to finish it before the month is through. JRPG July began as a community play-along hosted by blogger Anne Lee (a.k.a. Chic-Pixel). But since then, JRPG July evolved beyond that too, flapping its wings to Twitter, NeoGaf, and anywhere you'll find JRPG enthusiasts, or fans just looking to play something outside of their comfort zone. On Twitter, a lot of players use the hashtag #JRPGJuly to chart their progress across whatever game they pick.

Last year I think is the only time I successfully completed a game within the confines of JRPG July. I played the adorable Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, which I enjoyed far more than I expected to. (Plus, it had a killer soundtrack.) This year I'm in a conundrum though, I want to give Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age an honest shot since I bounced off of its original version in the past, but there's also a healthy amount of classic JRPGs gathering dust in my backlog (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound, I can go on forever).

Of course, we at USgamer lover RPGs. (Hell, we even have a podcast dedicated to them! Fancy that.) For the rest of the team, Kat's been hard at work playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (you can read her review on the game here.) Nadia's also eyeing that particular Final Fantasy remaster, as well as pecking away at Ever Oasis, the charming 3DS JRPG from the creator of Secret of Mana. Matt's on another boat entirely—the boat of Final Fantasy XIV, mustering through the early content to eventually get to Stormblood in approximately a million years. Speaking of which, you can read Mike's review of Stormblood here, which he dedicated many very busy, probably sleepless days and nights to pushing through.

What games are you playing for JRPG July, if any? What games do you wish you could play for the month?
