It would be fair to say we've never seen anything like this. Following what appears to be the release of a BBC video confirming the development of a new Driver game at Reflections in Newcastle, Ubisoft has issued a statement Yves Guillemot made in 2006 along with a note saying, "Nothing more specific than this has been said."

"We are thrilled with this acquisition which will allow us to add a prestigious title to our catalog and to enter into the driving games segment, one of the most important segments in the gaming industry. With more than 14 million units sold throughout the world, Driver is one of the most successful brands in the history of video games. We look forward to leveraging the unique knowledge of the Ubisoft studios to ensure that Driver will be one of the leading brands of the next generation of consoles,” said Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.

The Frenchman made the statement when it was announced that Ubisoft would acquire Reflections.

Putting two and two together to make 15, it appears the BBC has announced a new Driver game completely out of the loop of Ubisoft "officialdom".

More soon, no doubt.
