The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis gets a new game today
Tanglewood is a new indie game designed for Sega's classic Mega Drive and Genesis systems.
Tanglewood is a puzzle platformer from Big Evil Corporation, a small British team who not only went with a Mega Drive-era look for its game, but released it on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis as well.
Tanglewood is also available on PC, but the interesting thing here is that it was built with the tools developers of the 16-bit era used to create Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games. The team actually made it using development tools popular at the time, including utilising the 68000 assembly language.
Because of this dedication to authenticity, Tanglewood looks and sounds like a true 16-bit game. Its 2D action is inspired by Aladdin, and Sonic, set in a metroidvania-style world.
Being made for a classic console, the game is available on cartridge, playable on PAL, NTSC, and NTSC-J - meaning both the Mega Drive, and Genesis. What's more, the PC version comes with a Mega Drive ROM for those who prefer flash cartridges.
Tanglewood can be yours for $17.99/£13.95/€14.95 through Steam. Or, you can pay £54 (~$69) to get your very own physical Mega Drive cartridge.
