Sonic Generations is two genres in one game

Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka has said Sonic Generations aims to appeal to the blue hedgehog's two very different types of fans.

"Classic Sonic and modern Sonic are almost like a different genre of the game," the director told Siliconera, possibly winning a small award for understatement.

"Think of games with cars, there are driving games and racing games, each has a different type gameplay. With Sonic Generations, I’m trying to get two different games into one title."

The producer said he "appreciate[s] how both game styles have their own fanbase".

"Even if there was a new style of Sonic in the next ten years that wouldn’t be bad either, it would broaden the audience of Sonic the Hedgehog," he added.

Sonic Generations is due in November on 3DS, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
