Rumour: Wii to make second official drop to $150 in May

Engadget (via Kotaku) is citing a "trusted source" on a Wii price drop next month.

The source said the Wii price will be cut to $150 from May 15.

If true, this would be only the machine's second official price cut since it launched in 2006, and could signal Nintendo is preparing to move on to a new platform.

In addition, GoNintendo is carrying an image of an internal Kmart schedule that appears to back-up the story, listing the reduced-price Wii as "clearance stock".

The news will serve to drive speculation that Nintendo is readying a next-gen hardware announcement for E3.

Nintendo has released a list of upcoming games for the Wii, and promised new surprises in store, as sales of the little console that could continue to drop off.
