Monster Hunter World How to Kill Pukei-Pukei - All Pukei-Pukei Weaknesses and Attacks

The Pukei-Pukei might not be one of the most vicious creatures in Monster Hunter World, but it can still put up one hell of a fight. In this Monster Hunter World Pukei-Pukei guide, we'll be walking you through how to kill Pukei-Pukei in Monster Hunter World, so you know how to take down the monster as easily as possible.

Monster Hunter World How to Kill Pukei-Pukei

The Pukei-Pukei can be found in the Ancient Forest area of MHW, which is the starting area of the game. Don’t worry about running into this deadly beast as soon as you begin your journey however, as you’re far more likely to run into the weaker Great Jagras near the southwest Camp, than you are the Pukei-Pukei.

Instead, you’ll nearly always find the Pukei-Pukei near the upper northern areas of the Ancient Forest map, in zones 6 through 8, which is also the same area that you can frequently find the formidable Anjanath patrolling, so be on the lookout for an unwelcome visitor to your fight with the Pukei-Pukei.

Monster Hunter World Pukei-Pukei Weaknesses

The Pukei-Pukei isn’t one of the creatures in Monster Hunter World that will seek you out and attack you, but it will initiate combat should you stray too close to the beast. You’ll want to bring a quick weapon to a fight with this monster, because although it isn’t exactly one of the toughest beasts in Monster Hunter World, it does have some fairly rapid and long reaching attacks. We’d strongly recommend the Dual Blades for taking on the Pukei-Pukei, but the Sword and Shield, Insect Glaive, and Katana should also get the job done.

The main weapon of the Pukei-Pukei is its tongue, which it can use for both long, sweeping attacks, and jabbing attacks. Basically, you want to stay to the side of the Pukei-Pukei, as if you’re in front of it for too long, it’ll come lurching towards you with its tongue outstretched, and it also has the ability to spit poison at you, pools of which will occupy the ground for roughly ten seconds afterwards.

While staying to the side of the Pukei-Pukei is one tactic, another excellent one is to try and cut the tail off the monster. The Pukei-Pukei likes to sometimes enlarge its tail with poisonous odour, only to unleash it all across the battlefield, and if you ever see the Pukei-Pukei stop and start shaking, you know this attack is coming. Therefore cutting off the tail by simply hacking away at it with a bladed weapon is a great option, as it effectively takes one major weapon for the Pukei-Pukei out of the battle.

Unlike the Great Jagras, the Pukei-Pukei doesn’t have any minions that it can fall back on, and as long as no other vicious monsters like the Anjanath or Rathalos interfere, you should be fine to take down the Pukei-Pukei with a bladed weapon.
