Days Gone release date set for February 22, 2019

Sony Bend has announced the release date for Days Gone: we’ll be running from the not-zombie Freakers from February 22.

Have a watch of the latest trailer to get yourself in the mood for hordes of undead, rival biker gangs, infected bears, mangy dogs, grotesque birds, and your bike breaking down on you in the middle of all that.

Those infected animals are called 'Criers' in the Days Gone world, and you can expect to have to contend with anything from enraged mountain lions to killer cougars.

We also get another look at what the developers are calling 'ambush events', where a rival gang tries to take you off your bike and attack you. In an earlier trailer, this was achieved with a wire tied between two trees. Here it's a flaming vehicle blocking the road.

The trailer also introduces a new human faction - the R.I.P., or Rippers, are a cult who worship the Freakers. Rippers kill anyone who isn't a Freaker - apart from each other, apparently - but they refuse to kill Freakers. You can use this to your advantage.

There's also a rundown of three of the characters in the trailer, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog:

"William “Boozer” Gray was introduced in our first reveal trailer back in 2016, riding with Deacon on the broken road and keeping Deacon from bashing in the head of a dead Freaker. From their cuts we know they are both members – or ex members – of the Mongrels MC. So they are more than just friends, they are brothers.Boozer is played by the immensely talented Jim Pirri. For the role of Boozer, we needed a special actor who could help us tell the story. Boozer has to be tough, cynical, and a bad ass; but his friendship and brotherhood with Deacon has to come through as well. Jim has helped turn Boozer into a compelling and very human character.

"Alkai Turner (pronounced alk-eye) is the arms dealer at the Hotsprings survivor encampment, played by the talented Jonathan Joss.

"Ada Tucker is a former prison matron who now runs the Hotsprings camp, played by the inimitable DeeDee Rescher."
