A recent announcement from PlayStation confirms the temporary cancellation of the PS5 event scheduled for June 4.

The announcement was made on Twitter, where the official PlayStation page posted a statement regarding the event’s cancellation. You can check out the tweet below.

“We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4,” the post reads. “While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

This cancellation comes in the wake of a statement made by Sony earlier today, during which the multinational company expressed solidarity with Black Lives Matter and the fight against racism in the US. The original tweet from Sony is embedded below.

The first of a three-tweet statement, Sony went on to say,”But actions always speak louder than words. And we’re working hard to make sure we at Sony are doing more than just stating we are allies.”

“Right now, we want to use our platform to spread information & support. Please send links, resources, or other helpful information our way, and we’ll share them. When we all know more, we can do more.”

Sony wasn’t the only major global company to express solidarity with Black Lives Matter over the last 24 hours. Behemoth game studios and publishers such as EA, Riot Games, Microsoft, and Naughty Dog also posted their own individual statements, with Naughty Dog vice president Neil Druckmann tweeting about PlayStation matching the donations made by Naughty Dog employees on his own personal Twitter page.

It is currently unclear whether other events scheduled for this week, including Guerrilla Collective, the PC Gaming Show, and others will go ahead as planned. However, this cancellation has confirmed that Sony, at the very least, will be rescheduling the PS5 event intended for this Thursday, June 4.
