Building a battle royale mode in Ghost Recon Wildlands is impossible right now, says developer

Ghost Recon Wildlands may seem like an ideal candidate for a battle royale off-shoot, but the game’s developer says it’s not possible.

Anyone who played Ghost Recon Wildlands will attest that its vast open world, and the variety of weapons available would make for a killer battle royale game. The game even lets you skydive out of planes and helicopters, so most of it is really already there.

This is a popular request, and you can bet that Ubisoft gets asked this question a lot about Wildlands. Unfortunately, getting Wildlands to have the type of battle royale gameplay players want is not as easy as we imagine.

The game’s official Twitter account ended speculation once and for all, revealing that creating a battle royale mode would involve “changes in the game structure and technical challenges that are simply impossible to undertake right now.”

That’s certainly disappointing, but Ghost Recon Wildlands fans have a full year of content to look forward to that doesn’t involve battle royale. What it does promise, though, is new PvE and PvP content throughout the game’s year two of content.
