Star Wars Battlefront 2: take a look at the updated Star Cards, unlocks and progression systems

Ahead of tomorrow’s big patch, we get a chance to take a more detailed look at all the changes DICE made to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s progression systems.

Last week, the developer announced that tomorrow, a patch will be released for Star Wars Battlefront 2 that’ll be turning microtransactions back on, but using a much fairer system.

The highlight change is that loot crates will no longer be purchasable with real-money (Crystals). They can only be bought using the in-game currency, Credits. What’s more, loot crates will only contain cosmetic items going forward.

Star Cards remain part of the core progression, but you’ll only get them when you play the corresponding hero or class. Microtransactions, on the other hand, are only limited to buying appearance changes and other cosmetics directly, no RNG involved.

One other important change DICE is making is that Star Cards themselves will be level-gated, which solves the problem of getting high-level cards for classes and heroes you don’t play as, while also improving the balance overall by making sure only invested players get that kind of power.

Westie recently went to DICE’s offices to give the overhauled system a try and you can take an early look at it in the video below.
