The Pokemon franchise will celebrate its 20th Anniversary this year, and in celebration, Nintendo will release a New 3DS bundle which includes the re-release of Pokemon Blue, Red and Yellow.
All three titles will come pre-installed on a New 3DS handheld and the bundle includes two cover plates: one features the Blastoise evolution of Wartortle and the other Charizard. It also includes a download code for a new Pokemon menu theme.
The cover plates in Europe are Super Mystery Dungeon and series-themed. Images are posted below.
Those who own Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Pokemon X or Pokemon Y can also head to their local GameStop to pick up various Pokemon which will be made available during events in 2016. The characters are Arceus, Darkrai, Genesect and Mew. In Europe the Pokemon will be “distributed via various methods.”
Various retailers will also be stocking amiibo such as Charizard, Greninja, Jigglypuff, Lucario and Pikachu.
Pokemon’s 20th Anniversary celebration kicks off on February 27, which will see the release of the aforementioned bundle and the amiibo releases.
On the same day, three new Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles will also launch. The Special Edition bundles include a Nintendo 2DS system in either transparent red, blue or yellow and are pre-installed with with Red, Blue and Yellow. This is called the Special Pikachu Edition and it will correspond with the system’s color.
These Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles feature classic packaging reminiscent of the original Game Boy games, a sheet of 15 stickers to slap on the system and like the New 3DS version, it comes with a download code for a home menu theme.
