Sony discontinuing its PlayStation Mobile service [Update]

Sony Japan announced today it would be discontinuing its PlayStation Mobile service in the region come July, and it's been confirmed to be a worldwide shuttering, per the PlayStation Forums.

No new or paid content will be added to the service starting July 15, and come September 10 users will no longer be able to re-download any prior purchases.

Customers will still be able to access purchased content after September 10, by activating their devices using these instructions.

Sony announced in August of last year it would stop supporting the service on newer Android devices.

The PlayStation Mobile service launched in 2012 and provided smartphone users with a way to pruchase and play various indie games.
