Twitch has announced from today it will begin rolling out a new beta initiative called Group Chat.

According to Twitch, Group Chat allows for private, invite-only chat rooms which will exist separately from Channel Chat.

The initial beta period for the new feature will be available to members of the Twitch Partner Program only. This means that during the initial beta period, only Twitch Partners will be able to create Group Chat rooms, but any and every Twitch user can be invited to join a Group Chat.

The same moderation tools which apply to regular chat channels will be implemented, as well as the ability to control who joins the chat.

Broadcasters can limit it to invitation only, and moderators can be assigned and provided with decision making abilities such as invites etcetera.

Community members can also restrict the ability to receive Group Chat invites.

Group Chat is currently supported only on the web with the expansion of the beta beyond Partners to be determined, and the beta goes live for Twitch Partner Program members this afternoon.
