X Rebirth trailer introduces trading system

Ambitious 4X space sim X Rebirth has a complex system of trading, building and resource management forming a universe-wide economy; this trailer makes it all seem much simpler than I expect it really is.

In a bit of flavour text accompanying the video below, Egosoft said supply, demand and animal spirits are the main drivers of the economy, and these factors are affected by piracy, warring factions, damaged power stations and ships, merchant relations and more. Every action, such as aggressively targeting an enemy, can have an impact large or small on the broader economy.

Players begin with just a single cargo hold, and have access to a personalised trade system. This can build into a fleet of freighters, stations and factories if you focus on trading, but if you just stick to action you’ll still shape the economy.

The video also goes into finding resources, such as mining.

X Rebirth is due in November, having been delayed from a 2011 release.
