Xbox 360 sales in the UK look set to overtake the Wii. According to GFK Chart-Track, Microsoft’s console was just 200,000 units behind at the end of December, having outsold Nintendo’s product by over four times in 2012.

Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 remain the highest sellers in the UK. These are followed by the Wii and Xbox 360 in third and fourth respectively. Before Christmas, Nintendo confirmed 8 million consoles had shifted in the UK. Will 2013 finally be the year Microsoft topples its nearest UK sales competitor?

The Wii is still comfortable on a global scale. A total of 97 million Wii’s had been sold by September 2012, compared to 70 million Xbox 360 consoles (October 2012) and 70 million PS3’s (November 2012).
