Vimeo giving the boot to gaming videos

Over on its staff blog, Vimeo’s confirmed it’s officially waving farewell to videogame-related videos. Well, most of them, anyway.

“The Vimeo staff has decided that we are no longer going to allow gaming videos on Vimeo,” reads the post. “Specifically, we are no longer going to allow game walk-throughs, game strategy videos, depictions of player vs player battles, raids, fraps, or any other video gaming videos that simply depict individuals playing a video game. Videos falling into this category will be subject to deletion as of September 1st; new videos of this type will be removed.”

Apparently, Vimeo is casting our community aside for two reasons: lack of creativity and file-size. And while we must admit that a video of downing Onyxia for the 40th time likely won’t give Michelangelo any reason to worry, we’re still not fans of discrimination.

If it’s any consolation, however, Machinima is still a-okay with the Vimeo staff, so your dramedy about a fictional guild called is probably safe. Probably.
