BioWare has updated the list of SWTOR servers eligible for character transfers. Those wondering if their server has been deemed worthy, hit up the list here. BioWare will be offering free character transfers from select origin servers to pre-determined destination servers, and said servers and their corresponding destination servers “will be revealed on a regular, ongoing basis going forward.”

BioWare has announced that starting next week on June 12, SWTOR players will – if they choose – be allowed to transfer their characters over to a different server, free of charge. These will direct transfers from one origin server to a pre-selected destination server, in order to “provide a better gameplay experience for our players by ensuring population balance across the service.” In a blog post, the firm also detailed more on the class changes coming with Update 1.3, one of which is 100% threat generation when in tank stance. BioWare’s Emmanuel Lusinchi has said there are many variables and metrics when it comes to figuring out how many players an MMO such as Star Wars: The Old Republic has; therefore, when a number is provided by the company or a retailer, it’s not the full picture.

Over on the SWTOR forums, a player going by the name Scorpienne has complied a report which features population estimates on the MMO’s servers. According to his estimates, some servers only have, on average, 344 players online at a given time.

BioWare’s detailed update 1.3 for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the key feature of which being a group finder for flashpoints and operations. BioWare said during its weekly SWTOR community Q&A it’s looking into a technical issue preventing a modifiable offhand with some classes, and that it plans on added a new augment slot to existing modifiable items. The developer also there there are currently no plans for making companions more interchangeable, and also discussed the various rates of gear acquisition in progress tracks for PvE and PvP players. SWTOR lead designer Daniel Erickson has said the team at BioWare has realized how large the PvP community is, so it has “turned a huge amount of resources” towards creating more content. He also told RPS that more team members have been assigned to create end game content as players are approaching the current cap faster than previously thought.

BioWare has announced the SWTOR servers, which it took down earlier this morning for emergency maintenance, should be back up by 7.00pm EST. The developer tool the game offline due to some areas of the game being “reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status,” and some areas were missing completely and character in these areas became unavailable. Servers were taken offline around 9.30am CST and the team is working to “rebuild assets for the live servers,” but warns it’s not a quick process – meaning the downtime could be extended. However, you’ll get a free day of game time out of it (thanks Talkar!) so that should console you a bit. Be sure to keep and eye on the official website for status updates.

BioWare has updated the SWTOR blog to discuss the new PvP ranking system coming with patch 1.2. According to the team, changes in rank will be based on said rank when compared to your opponents’, and separate tracking options for solo and group players will be available. New Warzone rewards were also highlighted along with improvements to purchasing rewards and commendations earned in battle. A new vote-kick system will also be implemented to cut-back on AFK players. BioWare has released a new video discussing the Legacy System coming with Star Wars: The Old Republic Update 1.2. The Legacy System allows you to build your own family tree and link your characters on the same server together.Achievements will also open up new species options, as well as new abilities for all the characters in your Legacy. BioWare has announced another free weekend for Star Wars: The Old Republic will commence this Thursday, March 22 and end on Monday, March 26. However, it is only available to those who have not previously participated in free trials of the game.

BioWare has noted that quite a few crew skill changes are heading to Star Wars: The Old Republic with Update 1.2. The game’s designer Georg Zoeller posted a rather large list of changes coming with the update on the official site. One of the highlights noted was a change to artifice schematics which will allow players more choice in crystal colors regardless of weapon stats. Artificers are also to be “the first profession to gain some dedicated PvP crafting.” Gathering and reverse engineering are also getting tweaked, and cybertech practitioners will be able to sell created vehicles through the auction house now that bind restrictions have removed. Starting Thursday, March 15, players around the world will be able play Star Wars: The Old Republic in the first Weekend Pass Free Trial. For a limited time, individuals who don’t already have a previously-active SWTOR account can experience the MMO for up to four days for free, with no payment method required.

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello told investors that as of the end of February, Star Wars: The Old Republic has nearly 1.7 million paid subscribers with the “vast majority” playing beyond the free month of playtime. Because of this, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz has estimated it will go up to 2 million monthly subscribers as of June 2012.
