Child of Eden creator: Kinect technology getting better “every day”

kinect

It’s sort of funny that, when a new technology enters the fast lane of our sometimes incredibly fickle industry, about five minutes are spent pondering what it can do, while another five hundred are spent railing on what it can’t. Such seems to be the case with Kinect, which we nearly mistook for a series of delicious meats, considering how many times it’s been skewered and flamed.

Child of Eden creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, however, sees things differently. Kinect, he says, is only in its infancy, but it’s getting better all the time.

Mizuguchi: Okami and MadWorld deserved more attention

okami

Platinum’s Okami and MadWorld should have been better received, Qs Tetsuya Mizuguchi has told 1UP.

“It’s actually a coincidence that I mention two games by Clover/Platinum, but it’s a shame that unique games like this aren’t embraced by the public more,” said the Japanese dev stalwart.

Madworld’s wince-inducing sales were closely watched as the game was seen as something of a “core” test-bed for Wii, while Okami was hugely-loved, but not popular enough to spawn a Wii Sequel; a DS follow-on has since been announced.

There’s an interview through there.

Suda, Hino and Mizuguchi agree that E3 was all about motion control

sonymotioncontroller

Grasshopper Manufacture’s Goichi Suda, Level-5′s Akihiro Hino, and Q Entertainment’s Tetsuya Mizuguchi chat about E3 in the latest Famitsu, and all seem to agree that motion control stole the show.

“Hardware-wise, it was all about Project Natal,” Suda told the magazine. “It’s hard to really understand it unless you use it, and it remains to be seen what you can do with it, but I think it’ll be a huge device. We developed No More Heroes with the Wii remote in mind, but now I want to think about games with Natal in mind. I have to ask myself, as a game designer, what new games can be done with this, what can be an interesting experience and challenge, and I’m looking forward to that.”

“With new technology announcements like Natal and the [PS3] Motion Controller, it’s like I have a feel for the new generation, or that the door to the future has been opened,” said Tetsuya Mizuguchi. “It’s a wholly different impression of the future than we had before. It’s not a shift from 2D to 3D or in the number of polygons, but it’s games trying to open up an entirely new door. I thought it would take longer, but it’s happening faster than I expected.”

You can also get their views on what games were the most exciting to them at E3 via 1UP.

We love you, Mizuguchi. Make something good.

No more Space Channel 5, says Mizuguchi

spacechannel52.jpg

Did anyone expect there to be? Tetsuya Mizuguchi has told Eurogamer that he isn’t going to remake Space Channel 5, despite having reworked Rez.

“I don’t feel like there’s a really special reason to remake Space Channel 5 now,” said the developer.

“It’s not like Rez. Rez is an experience game – the physical experience is very important, the visuals, the sounds and the vibration. I wanted to prove that if you had much more resolution, including the vibration, that it could be much more fun.”

The full interview’s here.

Xbox 360 was needed to “do justice” to Rez, says Mizuguchi

rezhd.jpg

Speaking here, Tetsuya Mizuguchi has said that Xbox 360′s specs were needed to bring about the final version of this arty shooter, Rez, with the recent release of Rez HD.

“Being able to display Rez HD in the 16:9 widescreen format… leads to a greater sense of immersion for the player. I really feel that high resolution can cause humans to be stimulated and moved on an emotional level,” he said. “The number of players of Rez seems to have gradually increased over the past six years. To be honest, without developing it for a console with the high specifications of the Xbox 360, we couldn’t really have done justice to our aspirations for Rez.”

Eurogamer gave Rez HD a 10. We’re saying nothing.
