Don’t expect a re-release or remake of Monolith’s The Operatuve: No One Lives Forever any time soon. In a post on his One of Swords blog, Activision community manager Dan Amrich explained that neither Activision nor Monolith own the rights, or have any idea who does. It seems possible that Warner Bros or FOX is involved, but the take-home message is that Activision can’t do anything with the property. The 2000 PC stealth shooter is fondly remembered for its humour and camp 1960′s espionage atmosphere, and less fondly for a fairly dire PS2 port. It spawned a sequel and prequel.

Guardians of Middle-earth players can now battle it out as the White Wizard, Saruman. An Enchanter class, his abilities include the ability to stun enemy Guardians by dealing an AoE attack; he can also reveal, slow and deal ability damage over time using his Spies of Saruman attack; his Burst Shield detonates for area ability damage and silence; and his Power of the White Wizard attack channels ability damage over time. Warner Bros. has confirmed an earlier report of a round of lay-offs at its Seattle studios, which includes the teams behind Gotham City Impostors and Guardians of Middle-Earth.

Warner Bros.has announced Guardians of Middle-earth, a new MOBA game developed by Monolith and set to debut in the fall for PSN and XBLA. The game will feature tie-ins to the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey motion picture, directed by Peter Jackson. The game allows up to 10 players to compete in 5v5 competitive multiplayer battle arenas set in Middle-earth. It offers the choice of 20 guardians, including Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum, Thráin and more for players to control in PvP matches. It will contain in-game voice chat system, online stats and a leader board system. The first trailer for the game will be unveiled on GTTV with Geoff Keighley, Thursday May 31 at 1.00am EDT during the show’s annual pre-E3 special.

The latest round of DLC for Gotham City Impostors will bring, for free, Arkham Asylum as a new map to the game. PS3 owners got it last week as a mistake instead of the planned Rodeo Pirate Pack, with 360 to get on May 16 and PC at a TBA date. More details here, and a video is posted below.

Monolith and Warner Bros are seeking details of a reported Gotham City Impostors glitch which resets player stats. The problem apparently occurs most often when players have upgraded from a trial to the full version. Losing progress negates the benefits of paid DLC bonuses like XP boosts, so irate users have vocally filled 68 pages on the game’s forums.
