Square Enix really took criticism of Final Fantasy XIII seriously. “You want more moogle? You’ve got more moogle,” the publisher challenges in this trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Check it out through the break, courtesy of NovaCrystallis. Expect FFXIII-2 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, at the end of January in the US, and early February elsewhere.

Despite the launch of Vita last weekend, Nintendo’s 3DS still sits atop of the Japanese hardware charts, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 debuts with less than overwhelming sales numbers.

Square’s announced details of a 360-exclusive weapon for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Known as the Azrael weapon, carried by Serah, it’ll up your chain bonus stat.
You can purchase it from January 10 for 80 MSP. There’s more on it on Andriasang.

These FFXIII-2 DLC plans may not apply to the region you’re living in, but at least you’ll get an idea of where they’re going. First will be the Omega DLC available on December 22. Then, after the new year, Serah and Noel will be getting costumes. Which includes Noel’s Ezio Auditore da Firenze costume previously confirmed. Then in February, Serah will be getting a pink bikini costume. Lightning may also be featured in her Colloseum costume as DLC, thought that’s to be confirmed.

Square’s released a video showing the ability to capture monsters for use in future battles in FFXIII-2. This is the first time monsters have been available for use in this way in an FF title. Each monster has a specific role to play in combat, and there are over 150 to collect. And every one of the little guys can be developed and levelled, too.

Speaking in a podcast, Square Enix public relations officer Akio Ofuji has explained a Final Fantasy XIII-3 domain registration as a defensive measure. According to Andriasang‘s translation, the registration was made by the US office, and Japanese staff weren’t aware about it until the story was picked up by press. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due in Japan this month, with a Western release early next year on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

According to Andriasang, Final Fantasy XIII-2 combat has been improved over the original. The video below the break, released today, shows the “new Instant Paradigm Shift, the QTE-like cinematic actions, and updated paradigm customization interface. The clip also shows Noel and Serah fighting alongside Snow.”
I can’t argue with that. Watch for yourself. It’s out early next year for PS3 and 360.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is to lend one of its costume designs to Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square said this morning.
