CCP Games is a slow-burning studio, with only two released games under its belt. While Eve Online and Dust 514 are iterative games that require a lot of feedback and development, studio CEO Hilmar Petursson has explained that this slow, methodical approach is so the company doesn’t make dumb decisions on a whim.

EVE Online developer CCP Games has confirmed that 96% of its player base is male, and that the studio feels it’s because the sci-fi genre is typically a man’s domain.

EVE Online and DUST 514 have been brought back online following a string of DDOS attacks, and developer CCP Games has issued a statement on the matter to put subscribers at ease.

CCP has released a trailer for EVE Online: Odyssey, showing off some of the expansion’s features. Odyssey launches on Tuesday, June 4, and if you’re curious as to what all it entails – changes, additions, etc – you should head over to the main Odyssey page. Eve Online developer CCP Games has enabled log-in, PLEX and subscription support via Steam, with Steam Workshop and community hub support currently in consideration at the studio. The additions only apply to new players however.

While DUST 514, the console based MMO/FPS set in the Eve Online universe, is continuing to receive changes from CCP to its skill system based on feedback from players, some players are not happy with the effects the changes are having on their chosen skills. To help things run more smoothly CCP is offering players a chance to request one free respec.

EVE Online players celebrated the 10th anniversary of the space MMO by getting together and battling it out. While there were planned events organized by CCP, players themselves organized the “Flight of a Thousand Rifters III”. The goal? To destroy Nyx Supercarriers, the largest ships in the game, only using Frigates -which are the smallest. 3,000 players participated, and you can get a look at how things went below, courtesy of Scott Manley. Jon Lander, perhaps better known asn CCP Unifex, is stepping down from his role as EVE Online’s executive producer to head up the developer’s mobile division. PC Games N reports Lander has only held the job for about a year, weathering the fallout from the Incarna expansion, and overseeing three much better-received efforts in the interim. CCP is seeking external applicants to replace Lander; maybe you’d like to apply.

Holy balls, check out this interactive timeline of the history of CCP’s groundbreaking MMO, EVE Online. For a game that’s really turned into a story about how people play together, it’s got a heck of a lot of backstory, and CCP plans to expand it in the future with player-authored events. It’s kind of exciting to think that new updates and even player actions could have a place on here one day.
