Call of Duty: World at War trailer and official shots released
Update: There’s a full-length, HD version here.
The first teaser trailer for Call of Duty: World at War was put out by Activision yesterday, as you can see after the break. It doesn’t look “shit” by any stretch of the imagination. Some proper screens have been put out now as well, as you can see on Eurogamer.pt.

Call of Duty: World at War screens pour out
Whoops. As far as we were aware, none of this stuff was supposed to go live until June 23. PCGames.de, the German Official Xbox Magazine and Videogameszone.de either had different ideas or a different embargo. You can see another nine decent res, direct-feed shots of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War on NeoGaf. This makes 12 released now, if you include the three from yesterday.

CoD5 has to “redefine WWII genre”
According to this CVG report, Call of Duty: World at War Noah Heller has said that the game needs to change gamers’ perception of the entire WWII environment.
“Modern Warfare opened the door to so many people new to Call of Duty,” he said.
“The game built great fertile ground for us to start on and if we’re going to say: ‘Look it’s Christmas, here’s another Call of Duty as you loved it last year’, then we need to make sure the game is high quality or people won’t trust what Call of Duty is.”
Heller added, “This has to be the best shooter and has to redefine the World War II genre.”
This stuff came from MCV originally, but there’s no link and we can’t find it on the site.

Entire CoD: World at War OXM article scanned
What do editors think when they see this stuff? The entire Call of Duty: World at War cover article from this month’s UK OXM is available here.
For the record, the game’s on the cover of gamesTM, OXM and Play in the UK this month. PCZone’s carrying it as well, but the mag’s not doing a cover, apparently.

CoD5 has co-op, vehicles in multiplayer, CoD4 engine, every format apart from PSP
The subs issue of this month’s gamesTM has revealed a wealth of information on the now-announced Call of Duty: World at War, the final name for Treyarch’s Call of Duty 5.
From VG247 reader evilashchris, reading from the UK mag: “Right, apparently it’s going to be grittier, as gritty as ANY game out there to quote. The enemy will be scarier and use new tactics.
“There will be co-op for the first time in a Call of Duty. Also there will be vehicles and squad-based elements to the multiplayer. Formats: PC, PS3, 360 and Wii. The Wii version is being worked on by a separate team within Treyarch. [The mag] reckons it’ll be a much closer comparison between the next-gen and Wii versions than any other Wii game on the market.
“Jeez, they have the CoD4 engine running on the Wii apparently. They are using [the CoD4 engine] for all the next-gen ones too. The Wii Zapper will be supported.
“Also, this is how gritty it is: ‘The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat – the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape.’”
As is now known, the game will be set in the Pacific theatre of World War II.

Call of Duty 5 will be revealed in “mid-to-late” June
Videogaming247 has learned that Activision is about to reveal Call of Duty 5.
The game’s first media release will take place within two weeks.
“The reveal’s scheduled for mid-to-late June,” said a source. We weren’t told what the first look would consist of, although details and screens are a safe bet.
Call of Duty 5 is being developed by Treyarch, not Infinity Ward, the creating studio behind shooter meta-smash Call of Duty 4.
The game is believed to be set back in World War II, not in CoD4′s contemporary theatre.
We contacted Activision for comment this morning but they hadn’t replied at the time of writing.

Activision financials: “New theater” for six-format CoD5
In a conference call following the announcement of record financials last night, Activision said Call of Duty 5 will launch in the fourth quarter of the current financial year, ending March 31 2009.
“We’ll launch on all four platforms we’ve participated on in fiscal [year] 2008,” said Activision publishing CEO Mike Griffith, referring to Call of Duty 4, which released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Nintendo DS in 2007.
Griffiths also confirmed that “we’ll [also] launch on the PS2 and the Wii.”
Griffiths added: “We’ll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise.”
Thanks, Gamespot.

Activision financials: New CoD game to hit this fiscal year
Activision confirmed a new Call of Duty game for the coming financial year last night in an investor call, following the release of record financials for its third quarter.
Following the enormous success of Call of Duty 4 – the game was named the biggest selling for 2007 – versions were confirmed for PS2, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. No release date was given, but it’s reasonable to expect this is going to arrive this Christmas. The company wouldn’t confirm whether or not the game was Call of Duty 5 or a spin-off from the series.
