Rebellion calls AvP a “critical success” in spite of a few “totally shit” reviews, in talks for a sequel

(We’re two-for-two for stories with “shit” playing a primary role in the headline tonight. We get a cookie now, right?)
The reviews are in, and Rebellion’s reinvention of the Alien vs. Predator franchise is… decent? Completely awful? Well, it depends on who you ask.
Rebellion, however, hasn’t let that dampen its spirits. Also keep in mind that money talks. And from what the developer told, er, Develop, money’s voice – in conjunction with a chorus of “mostly good” reviews – is a great deal louder than a few “totally shit” reviews.

GameTrailers TV to drop pre-E3 bombs on May 28

GameTrailers TV filmed a special E3 episode full of news and some other goodies that will be ready to view come May 28 at 11:00pm EST.
We do, however, know a bit about what to expect from the show and here’s just some of it:
- Tricia Helfer and Rose McGowan are cohosts.
- An Uncharted 2 spokesman talks multiplayer and confirms that the beta will go live on the first day of E3.
- Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time features time travel and Ratchet will have hover boots, allowing him to move around in new ways.
- The president of Infinity Ward stops by to talk about Modern Warfare 2 and introduce the new trailer.
- More details for Mass Effect 2 will drop.
- A “big” Madden NFL announcement is expected.
- Bethesda will be revealing a new game.
- Batman: Arkham Asylum, Alien Vs. Predator, Dante’s Inferno, Lost Planet 2, and Need for Speed: Shift will also be featured.
Massive show, apparently.

Alien vs. Predator is aimed at adults, neck-snapping included

Details for Rebellion’s Alien vs. Predator just keep popping up.
Looks like it’s aimed for the adult crowd, with the Predator being able to grab a nearby space marine, snap his neck and then rip the head off with the spinal cord still attached. Just like the movies.
Said head will continue to blink and gasp too. Violent isn’t it?
Predators move a bit slower than in the last game, and per usual, can run around on walls, ceilings, and any other surface that gives it an advantage.
Still no exact release date for the game, but it has been confirmed for both PS3 and Xbox 360 so far.

Rebellion offers up a few details on Alien vs. Predator
A few details for Alien vs. Predator were revealed in a PSW chat with Rebellion’s Jason Kingsley.
According to the interview, the game features three player classes – Aliens, Marines, and Predators -each harboring its own special abilities and powers.
A “rock-paper-scissors” balance system has been implemented in multiplayer and there is also a single-player campaign for each class.
Story wise, the game is set 30 years after the original Aliens and involves a new planet that has been colonized. While digging for minerals, ancient ruins are discovered and, as you can guess, all hell breaks loose.
Kingsley said during the interview that the game will “dovetail directly into the 20th Century Fox movies, too”, and Rebellion included loads of ideas into the game that were previously cut because of hardware constraints.
The game is expected sometime in 2010, and while platforms have not been announced, it’s easy to assume it will land on PS3 and Xbox 360 at the very least.
