You’ve just killed a man in cold blood. Sure, he was a bit of a sleaze, but he probably didn’t deserve three rib-shattering kicks to the mid-section followed by a clavicle-rending slash to the shoulder. Whatever, though; you’re an unfeeling, utterly ruthless contract killer. No use crying over spilt blood. And so, you silently saunter away, uttering only one phrase: “Oh sweet! Achievement unlocked! Yippee!”

If you’d like to plot out your bloody, achievement-unlocking swath, Assassin’s Creed II achievement/trophy lists have found their ways onto MyGamerCard and PS3Trophies. We are, however, setting the spoiler warning for this one at “minor spoilers” yellow. This is, of course, far from “Snape kills Dumbledore” red, but if you’re hoping to go into Assassin’s Creed II completely untainted, you should probably skip these.

The rumor is rumor no more. The final pair of Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns – known as “Hard Rain” and “Dead Center” – are real. How do we know? Because Valve told us so.

“They’re legit,” Valve’s Doug Lombardi told VG247.

On top of that, the game’s Achievement list – recently rescued from a storage closet by Xbox360Achievements.org – lists the two new campaigns, along with a slew of other unannounced odds and ends. Standouts include the defibrilator, which probably brings allies back to life,  and the “bile bomb,” which both intrigues and disgusts us. In a good way.

Gearbox bossman Randy Pitchford has told OXM that incorporating easy Achievements in games can increase sales by up to 40,000.

“The Achievement hunter, who’s going to make purchase decisions around the Achievements per minute to ratio – he’s probably buying ten to twenty titles a year, or at least playing that many,” said Pitchford. “He’s playing a lot. So he’s a very frequent customer, and you want to be in that pile. That’s just business.

“The time it takes is minimal because you’re designing Achievements anyway, and you can probably affect your sales by something like 10-40,000 units. If you’re talking about a triple-A game selling between 1 and 2.5 million units. You’re talking tens of thousands of units of impact there. Unfortunately most people in the industry don’t think through it that much.

“You have designers designing Achievements, and they’re the worst.”

Xbox 360 Achievements – shockingly enough – has a list of Modern Warfare 2′s achievements. It’s long, and mostly concerned with things and the killing thereof.

But then, the game is called Modern Warfare 2. Killing? In war? This post is chock full of shocking discoveries.
