Nintendo's new console is a "Switch that will flip", changing the way people experience entertainment

Nintendo Switch is going to revolutionise your life, man.

Switch is a funny name for a console, but so was Wii and we all know how that worked out.

In a Japanese interview translated by Nintendo Everything, a Nintendo spokesperson shed a little more light on why it chose the name Switch.

"We decided that this name would be the best fit for our product for two reasons. It represents one of the defining features of the Switch, the ability to seamlessly ‘switch’ between the TV screen and Switch’s screen," they said.

"While also embodying the idea of being a ‘switch’ that will flip, and change the way people experience entertainment in their daily lives.”

It works on so many levels, and none of them have to do with your preferred position in bed.

Switch is expected to launch before the end of March 2017, and we're going to learn a great deal more about it in January.

Regardless of the console's performance we're going to have to live with a s**t ton of headline puns on the word Switch, so be sure to keep a vomit receptacle handy for the next few months.
