Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator wants to buy IPs from Disney

With the recent news that Disney will no longer be publishing video games, and will instead be relying on licensing IPs, Ron Gilbert, creator of classic adventure series such as Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, has expressed interest in acquiring the rights to these games.

Gilbert, who's currently working on Thimbleweed Park, an adventure game in the vein of his 90s Lucas Arts work, tweeted that he's willing to pay Disney for the rights.

You'll notice he misspelled "Maniac Mansion" in the tweet, and later joked about not being able to proof read his tweets.

Disney is notorious for hoarding IPs, and will likely agree to license these to him, rather than selling them outright.
