2K and WWE will never let their love die. Never.
Now that 2K Sports has the exclusive video game rights to the WWE, it’s not letting go. The two organisations have signed a new multi-year agreement extending their existing relationship.
The financial details were not disclosed, and in fact 2K and WWE didn’t actually say how long the new deal will last.
“We are very pleased to extend our partnership with WWE and look forward to many more years of collaboration,” 2K COO David Ismailer said.
The WWE 2K series is developed by a joint studio team combining the efforts of NBA 2K team Visual Concepts and longterm WWE series developer Yuke’s. 2K and WWE saw fit to remind us that this line of games stretches back 18 years now (!), although 2K inherited it from THQ when the latter went balls-up in 2013.
Since taking over the license 2K has extended it to other projects, including social and mobile games. The latest of these, WWE SuperCard, has been downloaded over 9 million times.
