Background music playback on Xbox One not a priority, says Spencer

The ability to listen to music in the background while playing games on Xbox One, is not something Microsoft is prioritising at this stage.

Being able to play your own music in the background as you game was an essential part of Xbox 360 for many owners. The feature was integrated very well and would even automatically turn off in-game music when it's being used, and allowed players to listen to podcasts and music without the need for separate hardware like mixamps.

Ever since the release of Xbox One and with each major update, fans continue to bring this up, hoping that one day the beloved feature would make it on to the new console. With the New Xbox Experience now in preview, many thought it would be a good time to remind the company once again.

"This one is just a prioritization thing with other work. We like the feature," replied Xbox boss Phil Spencer to one fan on Twitter.

As you can see, more pressing issues will have to take precedence, which also means fans will keep bringing it up.
